SOUTH PACIFIC

This region is part of the Osa Peninsula, claimed by National Geographic as “one of the most biologically intense regions on earth”, and a natural habitat for just about every type of wildlife known in the country. It is a place filled with exotic wildlife, friendly and diverse people and stunning natural landscapes. This region has the highest percentage of protected land dedicated to National Parks and Private Reserves. It includes Ballena Marine National Park, Caño Island Biological Reserve, the Térraba-Sierpe Mangroves, Corcovado National Park, Piedras Blancas National Park, Amistad International Park, Chirripó National Park, among many others. It contains an immensely varied topography, including high mountain plateaus to marine environments with tranquil beaches of pristine beauty and endless acres of lush rainforest and waterfalls.

BAHÍA BALLENA

Described by many as the “Best 25 mile corridor” in Central America, Bahia Ballena is a unique spot where the rainforest meets the Ocean. There are hidden treasures throughout the Bahia Ballena region of Costa Rica. Rushing rivers, majestic waterfalls, sun drenched beaches, and jungle covered mountains that drop right into the Pacific Ocean are all found in this natural paradise. Bahia Ballena, also known as “Costa Ballena” was named by locals because of the whales that mate off the coast of Bahia Ballena between the months of December and April.
It is described by many as one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world, with breathtaking beaches and fantastic views. Located in the southern Puntarenas province, this corridor includes the villages of Dominical, Uvita and Ojochal, all gravitating around the unique Marino Ballena National Park.

Nauyaca Water Falls Tour

Nauyaca Waterfalls are only a 35 minute drive away from Finca Ron Ron. Nauyaca is comprised of two waterfalls, one standing at 45m in free fall and the second at 20m with a tiered fall, forming a 1,000sqm and 6m deep pool. There are also other smaller natural pools where visitors can enjoy the waters. You can both hike and partially horseback ride over a 6km route with three resting periods to the majestic waterfalls.

Osa Canopy Tour

Start your journey on the 800-acre private reserve that includes primary and secondary humid tropical rainforests. Enjoy spectacular views out over the majestic Pacific Ocean while you prepare for an exhilarating tour where you’ll learn a lot about the Osa in a fun and informative manner with your bilingual guides.

This 2-3 hour tour involves a zip line with 14 platforms, 9 wires, 2 tree rappelling opportunities, and 1 suspension bridge.

Rancho La Merced Horseback Riding​

Rancho La Merced National Wildlife Refuge has an area of 1250 acres which is comprised of a reserve with primary and secondary rainforest, pasture land, mangroves and frontage on the Morete River and beach. The refuge is home to more than 310 bird species. Rancho La Merced offers various hikes and horse trails:

Kayaking

Our location is blessed with an impressive, pre-historic looking coastline, and what better way to explore than by kayak? Tour options include excursions in the river through the mangroves and at sea with some snorkeling too.
Depending on your experience one can choose:

Finca Ron Ron - Hikes, Birdwatching & Waterfall swims

You can discover Finca Ron Ron  by yourself. There are many hiking trails that go through the rainforest and also through waterfalls.

The rainforest birdwatching hike tipically begins just after daybreak. After a couple of hours of hiking and experiencing the early morning jungle, you may chose to observe birds at your leisure while having a delicious Costa Rican breakfast at the house. There are great hikes available through primary forest in search of birds that forage in your own particular natural habitat.

The rainforest Waterfall Rappelling

From Uvita, take a 15 minute drive through the rough rocky roads to the top of the canyon where you will receive thorough safety instructions before starting your adventure. When you reach the first waterfall (5m/15ft high), you’ll be taught the fundamentals and proper techniques of rappelling. Then you’re on your
way – with 5 more waterfalls to go!

The largest of the falls is 25m, or 75ft!

The canyon ends at the Uvita River where there are some pristine pools perfect for swimming, relaxing and reflecting.

Learn to surf with a Pro

Mesmerized by this super cool sport? From Dominical to Uvita and all the way down to Bahia Ballena, if you want to learn to surf, you won’t find better waves than these!
Your private instructor can get you up and riding in no time during your 3 hour tour. Learn all about beach safety and how to identify and handle rip currents, wave generation and balance control, catching waves and riding stance, as well as paddling and intermediate turning.
Embrace this exhilarating part of Costa Rican culture and return home with the most enviable of new skills.

ATV Tour Uvita

This 3-4 hour tour is scenic and easy-paced. It’ll take you over the mountains and into some deep jungle providing you with many spectacular ocean and valley views. You’ll pass through several streams, coffee and banana plantations, and frequently see monkeys, toucans and other exotic wildlife on your way to the San Luis waterfall, one of the tallest in Costa Rica – often the top cannot be seen as it’s in the clouds!

As you continue on your loop through the rainforest, stop for some fresh local fruit and a refreshing swim at another waterfall before heading back to base.

You may choose to have your own vehicle for this tour, or share one. Side-by-side quads are also available if you’d prefer.

Sport Fishing Tour

Fight for your catch of the day! Put your sport fishing skills to practice in shore or offshore, and feel the adrenaline rush of fighting a fierce mahimahi, yellowfin tuna, marlin, or sailfish during your sport fishing tour. The waters off the Osa Peninsula in the South Pacific Ocean of Costa Rica are home to a great variety of fish, and local captains have over 10 years of experience & know the hottest areas for fishing. The Osa Peninsula region continues to produce world record catches year after year.

In addition to impressive fish, during your fishing tour you may also observe whales, dolphins, turtles and marine birds.

Fantastic views of the Southern Pacific Osa coastline are always guaranteed, and if you’re lucky you may convince the captain to make you some fresh fish tacos upon your return!

Stand - up Paddle Boarding

On this approximately 3 hour tour you can first learn the basics of stand-up paddle boarding if necessary, including safety, board management, and paddling technique. Once you’re an expert, you can head out to Uvita Beach where you’ll paddle to the Whale´s Tail to snorkel in the calm waters of the Marino Ballena National Park. You’ll see lots of colorful fish frolicking between the rocks and coral that make up the end of the Whale’s Tail.

After snorkeling you can take some refreshments on the famous Whale’s Tail sandbar and you can explore the rock pools of this natural and iconic land formation. After a break, you can go back on your board for a scenic paddle back to Uvita Beach.

White water rafting

Head to the Savegre River for a wet and wild adventure. Raft through the primary forest taking in the sights and sounds of the jungle, and enjoy a hot grilled lunch overlooking the river too. After refueling, you can continue the adventure to Boca Diablo, or Devil’s Mouth, a short rapid featuring big waves spilling out into a calm swimming pool. After Boca Diablo and several more rapids, you’ll arrive at Quebrada Arroyo where you’ll take a short hike to see and swim in a majestic spring-fed waterfall.

Recommended for physically fit adventure seekers and experienced rafters who are familiar with Class II and III rapids.

Parrot Costa Rica

Marino Ballena National Park

Named after the Spanish for ‘whale’, the Marino Ballena National Park covers 100 hectares (44.5 acres) and stretches out 5,375 hectares (21767 acres) into the Pacific Ocean. Every year, the humpback whale migrates from both hemispheres to the warm tropical waters of Costa Rica. They arrive from mid-July through October.

Whales and Dolphins Watching Tour

Get to know the Marino Ballena National Park inside out with a tour. Depart by boat from Punta Uvita Beach and visit the famous Whale’s Tail sandbar formation, Ballena Island, Tres Hermanas Islets and Ventanas Sea Caves. During your tour, search for Humpback Whales (seasonally) and two different species of resident dolphins. With some luck, you might hear the song of the Humpback Whale and observe the acrobatic displays of the dolphins.

Other species that are seen occasionally include Bryde’s whales, pilot whales, false killer whales and whale sharks. You’ll also visit the coral and rock reefs to snorkel and observe more wonderfully colorful marine wildlife.

During rainy months (June through November) we recommend that you bring a rain coat or poncho.

Caño Island Biological Reserve

This small island lies approximately 20km offshore from the Osa Peninsula at Drake Bay, and is well-known for its beaches and coral reefs which are home to 19 coral species. Caño’s real attraction is underwater, where its rich sea life includes species from white-tipped sharks to manta rays and many colorful reef fish. Formerly a pre Columbian burial ground, Caño Island is also of considerable archaeological importance too, preserving an important part of indigenous history in Costa Rica.

Combine two of Costa Rica’s most magnificent jewels in a tour: Caño Island Biological Reserve and Violines Island. Take a scenic 1.5 hour boat trip to Caño Island where you can observe whales, dolphins, marine birds and maybe even sea turtles. Once you reach the island you’ll be able to snorkel around the healthiest coral reefs and observe a great variety of marine species, many of which are in danger of extinction. Afterwards, you’ll head by boat to the north side of the lush Violines Island. Upon arrival, enjoy a picnic lunch and while away the afternoon at the beach, where you can paddle along the shore or swim in its safe bay. The boat tipically head’s back to Uvita Beach at 2:30 3:00pm.


During rainy months (June through November) we recommend that you bring a rain coat or poncho.

Corcovado National Park & Tour

Despite our size, Costa Rica is home to an impressive 5% of the world’s biodiversity. Located on the Osa Peninsula, Corcovado National Park has been described by National Geographic as “the most biologically intense place on Earth”. Holding 3% of that biodiversity, Corcovado is also famous for having the largest area of primary rainforest on the Pacific coast.

Travel by boat for 1.5 hours to reach the San Pedrillo ranger station of the Corcovado National Park. In route depending on the season, you may be able to spot whales, dolphins, turtles and marine birds, and stunning views of the Southern Pacific Osa coastline are always guaranteed! During your visit to the park, you’ll hike along two different trails and observe beautiful flora and fauna in the most biologically intense place on Earth. The first hike is around 3 hours long, and them second is approximately 1.5 hours, and both provide a fantastic opportunity to encounter numerous mammals such as howler, spider and white-faced monkeys, sloths, coatis, raccoons, and tapirs, as well as a great variety of birds, plants, and endangered trees older than one hundred years of age. After the first hike, take a picnic lunch to recharge the batteries before beginning the second trek to a nearby waterfall. The boat returns from Corcovado tipically at 2.30pm and arrives to Punta Uvita at 4-4:30pm.
